President’s corner

Well, what an experience at the war bird fly in. We learned a lot by being
helpful for others, sometimes trying to please every one can have a dire
outcome. We, I, the club, was very lucky, on the incident that occurred at
the fly in. we came , we flew , we crashed , we sold tickets, we made head
lines, not bad in only 20 minutes, we showed the community our planes, and
the excitement of flying, and total disbelief that one could crash during a
show. as the receiver was destroyed on impact I contacted A.M.A. in Muncie
Indiana and talked to a technical director about the total loss of the plane
and was advised that dopular radar will totally swamp out our frequency on
the planes receiver, Mike Geddy the director from the flight museum also
found that military and commercial air craft were also talking to the tower
at the same time, so we have been exonerated somewhat. Out come, one lost
piper cub, showing the need that this community needs a permanent flying
field that can be safely monitored...
Field Report, as on going situations seem to continue to keep changing, and
locations not being spoken for, or nothing in writing with a guarantee, we
needed clarification on location and what we can or can not do. We have
secured the entire top area of a closed site. We have staked out a run way
50-ft by 500 ft..  a parking area, pit area, flight line, etc. we have
taken the powers to be from the dump site, and at the present time have
their ok on this location, we are still waiting for the final ok from the
state on the permit, and then to the city, for the final approval, we are
all aware of the oil price increase, and that will have some impact on
costs, we will try to work with all identities to keep the cost down.. At
the present time there is nothing more we can do until the state approves
the dump sites requests. The city of Santa Maria is just as anxious as we
are to get this permit, keep flying be safe have fun, Larry Schlagel.

P.S

As we all knew Alvin Seidenberg as a good hearted man, I continuously called him Albert , on the news of his death. I inappropriately referred to him as Albert again, to all of his friends and families  I apologize and meant no disrespect. Larry Schlagel.

Minutes of the Tri-Valley R/C Modelers

Minutes of the Tri-Valley Aero modelers

September 1, 2005

The meeting was opened by Vice President Jim Obrest.

Les Holland reported that we have gone through several iterations of where to place the new flying field.  We are presently promised the site that we had selected 1 ˝ years ago. The EIA is approved and we are in.

We will need tables for the new site.  Carl will provide plans and assemble kits for the members to build.  While Carl is the chairman of this ad hoc committee he is soliciting the help of some other members.

Note:  The report of the demise of the Vandenberg club the “Wing Busters” was premature.  This club is alive and well with 26 active members.  Jim Givens is the President of the Wing Busters.  Their web site is closed.

The Lompoc club is currently dormant but the charter is current and they hope to become active soon.

Frank Osborne wants an update of the frequency data base.  Please report to him the frequencies that you use.

For his spectacular crash before a throng of hundreds Larry won unanimously.

Jim Buebaur  Showed off his SAM .049 Puss Moth.  It is covered with Coverite microlight to save weight.  He also recommended a glue called liquid stitch which is sold at the notions counter of the sewing department.

Seven door prizes were won.  Carl H. Won the 50-50 drawing.

Respectfully submitted

Jerry Miller.

ALVIN  SEIDENBERG
1925-2005

Alvin Seidenberg passed away Wednesday September 21, 2005 at Marian Medical Center in Santa Maria, California.

Mr. Seidenberg was born November 18, 1925 in Brooklyn, NY to Henry and Lena Seidenberg. He was raised and educated in New York and following high school he joined the U.S. Navy. He served in the Pacific Theater aboard the USS Lyman K. Swenson from 1944 to 1946. Al lived in New York and Florida prior to moving to Santa Maria three years ago.

For over 40 years, Al was employed as a salesman in the aluminum manufacturing and automotive industries. Al’s hobbies included building and flying remote-controlled airplanes. He was a lifelong member of radio-controlled modelers clubs in New York and Florida and most recently an active member of the Tri-Valley R/C Modelers Club. He was also an accomplished craftsman in woodworking. His family, friends and strangers alike were attracted to Al’s quick sense of humor and endearing, charismatic personality.

Al was a loving father to his sons, Stuart N. Seidenberg and his wife Shelley of Massapequa, NY; Richard B. Seidenberg and his wife Janice of Santa Maria, CA and Mitchell N. Seidenberg of Massapequa Park, NY. He was a wonderful grandfather to his grandchildren, Brian, David, Amanda, Lauren and Nathan Seidenberg. He is also survived by his sister, Janet and brother, Morton. Alvin remained close to his first wife, Phyllis, the mother of his children. He was preceded in death by his wife Shirley Seidenberg.

Private memorial services will be conducted in New York by his family. His ashes will be placed at sea by the U.S. Navy. Donations in Al’s memory may be made to the American Red Cross. Arrangements are under the care of Dudley-Hoffman Mortuary and Crematory.
