President’s corner
The year has started off a lil wet and
windy but still some good days, were
aware of the new dump site that the city is looking at, and also the
suggestions for land use . inc recreational use and a possible site for us
?? As of now we are in a situation that we do have the funds to build a
flying field, but we still need to be cautious, this site as stated in the
times and from Duane Chisem the director of utilities witch is John Zao,s
boss from the Santa Maria land fill was miss quoted.(as could be also used
as a R/C flying field).. the times did not how ever add the part as we now
have going on at our current land fill on the land use permits that are
being filed to the state .. as you can see a very large statement was left
out. the property in question is on the old los Flores ranch aprox, 1/2
mile past the union picnic grounds on the east side of 101, no access from
101 north or south. you we must enter from Clark rd to dominion rd to a
dirt road that is not passable in in climate weather unless you have a 4x4
and the county will not maintain this road, the site is on top of a hill
actually on a ridge and has a continuous wind problem helped by the
mountains in the area that funnels it to the ridge, yes it does have a great
view,,. We all know that this club has been waiting for a flying site that
we can call home. we are in contact with the city and the division of parks
and recreation that any property will have to go threw be fore it will be
released to any one , according to Alex Posada who is the manager of parks
and rec, we do and will always entertain any and all possibilities that
will produce the flying site that we need and can use for a meaningful time
frame , as of now we are still hope full on the currant site at the land
fill that we have been working on , I hope this helps any confusion on the
quote in the Santa Maria times, and what any other city administrator
stated . hang in there .. Larry Schlagel president..
Minutes of the Tri-Valley Aero modelers
January 4, 2006
The meeting was opened at 7:00 by President Larry Schlagel.
Field Search Report
Larry was in touch with John Zhao. The final draft is in Sacramento for final approval it should be back in 60-90 days. The city will then hold hearings, we have already talked to the Parks and Recreation Dept. and have their support. The land use permit is approved and we are looking to get a 20 year lease.
New Business
Dues are due and payable.
Question before the membership: Since the club subsidizes the door prizes, should non-members be allowed to participate? The general feeling of those present was that they shouldn’t. We will vote on this at the next meeting.
Bob Allington asked if the club would again buy AMA Cub rubber powered planes for the 2006 youth event. The members agreed to support this activity.
Show and Tell
We saw a Blade C.P. electric helicopter by E-Flite bought at Big Boys Toys for $230 complete with transmitter. This good looking model flew right out of the box.
Respectfully submitted,
Jerry Miller
